We were invited by Thinking Place to work with them in rebranding Rochdale.
Rochdale, on the edge of the exciting city of Manchester, but set in the beautiful landscape of moorland, hills, and waters, has suffered from negative reviews. As part of a place branding programme a new identity was developed which is the representation and embodiment of the ‘new Rochdale’.
The big idea is ‘Growing Space, reflected visually. One sees the different elements of the place coming together to create a whole. The landscape is reflected in the larger, multi-form dynamic representations that also move, evolve and animate. One literally experiences space growing.
Water, key to Rochdale’s development and in leisure outlets for its community, is a strong theme, illustrated by molecules, blue, waves and waterscapes and a unique illustrative graphic language.
Rochdale’s new identity and highly flexible visual language and illustrative system have been applied across billboards, pop-ups and all other place communication activity.
