ATOMIC

TITLE SEQUENCE

The brief for Atomic was to tell a story about ordinary people carrying extraordinary consequences. The sequence follows two small silhouetted figures, Max and JJ, as they run, leap and dodge through a world where they are dwarfed by forces far greater than themselves. Enormous faces loom overhead like watchful gods, while the sun rises at the beginning and ultimately consumes the final frame, evoking both an atomic blast and something more ambiguous.

Rather than relying on footage from the series, we developed a flexible blend of 2D and 3D animation, using stylised character likenesses and treating our protagonists as tiny figures navigating a landscape of overwhelming symbolism.

A key creative challenge was designing a series of inventive transitions that mirrored the relentless energy of the story. Every shift needed to feel surprising yet seamless, carrying the viewer between locations, ideas and metaphors without losing momentum. At the same time, we carefully balanced pace with moments of scale and stillness, allowing each environment, from the Atlas Mountains to abstract worlds of surveillance, to retain its own identity.
