REUNION
TITLE SEQUENCE
The titles for Reunion were built around the idea of using vibration as a visual storytelling device, creating motion that could be felt as much as seen. With the series told primarily in British Sign Language, our focus was on communicating through texture, rhythm and physical movement.
Finding the right materials was a crucial part of the process. We tested everything from ball bearings and shotgun pellets to fine powders, but many felt visually generic or disconnected from the story. We eventually settled on burnt pencils, pencil shavings and ash. Not only did they respond beautifully and unpredictably to vibration, they also subtly referenced the show’s plot without giving anything away.
Using these irregular, hand-made materials presented its own technical challenges. Unlike uniform powders or beads, every fragment reacted differently depending on its size, shape and weight. We used a resonance speaker to generate the movement, testing different surfaces, sound sources and voltages to create motion that felt unstable, organic and alive rather than perfectly ordered.
The final sequence was created almost entirely in-camera, with only minimal post-production for grading, masking and typography. The result captures the raw unpredictability of physical materials while reflecting the emotional texture at the heart of the series.
